A remarkable Father’s Day

It had turned out to be an unforgettable event for current exco council team as this is the last chapter meeting for this term.  A thankful opening address by the president Kia was very sentimental and emotional. There cannot be a wonderful egress for a president who has guided the team for achieving president’s distinguished club. Toastmaster of the evening Jit Hwee enthusiastically carried out the progress of the meeting with a unique introduction of guests and appointment holders. Competent communicator Coen Ching introduced a distinctive word of the day “inkling”Table topics session was excellently handled by sunny with topics related to family life.Then followed prepared speech session where our new members enthusiastically presented their projects. Nandu impressed everyone about project management where as citi revealed organizing ability of her speech. Siti deserved her best speaker title for the day with an extraordinary speech on love and friendship.

Valuable and beneficial evaluation by project evaluators helped project speakers to improve upon in future speeches.Language evaluator Cozen Ching did a broad analysis of the language used in the meeting. He pointed out that “actually” is to be considered as a   pause filler. Chin Jack was quietly observing the entire meeting proceedings to note down all the pause fillers and presented Ah counter report. Stimulating conclusion for the meeting was through elating closing address by the president and presentations of ribbons for the best speakers. As a whole, the meeting was with an outstanding theme to be remembered on father’s day.

Contest, Contest & Contest

This is a meeting in the midst of contest season at toastmasters club. An stirring opening address by the president Kia was to encourage club members for taking part in club contests. He has quoted “Winning is not everything. Daring to participate in the contest is more than winning”.Undoubtedly every member was impressed and there was an active response from them.Toastmaster of the evening Shahadih was a special guest from Teach Me TMC. She had conceded out the proceedings in an elegant way. Jacky Lim from Toastmasters Club of Singapore conducted a very exciting Table topics contest. New club members Dessler & Kwok Kiang completed their project two with ease. Prabin displayed his vocal variety through his project no: 6 which helped him to win the best speaker award. Vijay completed his 10-th project with a topic on Team Work which enabled him to become Competent Communicator (CC).Effective and constructive evaluation by project evaluators benefited project speakers.Language evaluator Ng Cher Khim Derek Wong did a comprehensive   analysis of the language used in the meeting. Electrifying conclusion for the meeting was through exhilarating closing address by the president and presentations of ribbons for the best speakers. As a whole ,  the meeting was outstanding with well contested events just right in the contest season.

A well remembered Family Day Event

A dramatic opening address by our VPE Cynthia with good news on achievement of our club for President’s distinguished club. Word of the day “Victorious” was introduced in a special style by Derek Wong. Toastmaster of the evening Prabin followed a unique way of self introduction with a wish on what every one of us want to do when we wake up in the morning. Table topic session was interestingly proceeded by Jack with the topics relevant to Family day and family –work life balance. Two successful journeys of the Toastmaster were started in this chapter meeting. Cindy and Siti presented their ice breaker speeches. Sunny inspired everyone with his persuasive speech on  “You can do it”. Cynthia thrilled everybody with her advance level speech about the journey of our club for the next year. Evaluators displayed their skills through constructive comments on the prepared speeches.  Language evaluator Derek Wong did a detailed analysis of the language used in the meeting. Meeting ended with motivating, inspiring closing address by the president and presentations of ribbons for the best speakers. The meeting was a unique and well remembered family day event at the roof top of the Frontier Club.

A well organized international Speech and Table Topics contest. Full credit to Sunny wong for his excellent job.Clap…Clap. ..Clap… A big round of applause to Sunny! Not to forget our two new members - Dessler and Kwok Khiong… They rendered Excellent help in the contest as tally counters. Everyone inspired by the courage and enthusiasm from the contestants and aspire to be one of the Contestants in the forth  coming contest in August (Humorous speech and Evaluation contest) The flow of the contest was well done! No time was wasted and we ended on time. Big applause to Prabin  As a whole it was a most memorable evening with Kia winning the club contest for international speech and Cynthia crowned for Table topic at the club contest.

The first session of 9th Speechcraft Workshop has finally begun. There were a total of 10 participants in this workshop, including 4 new members who have just joined The Frontier Toastmasters Club recently.

“Speak powerfully, speak impressively, I can do it!” was the theme for the workshop. Every participant was asked to say it loud to the audience. A yellow A4 paper with printed theme was placed in front of each participant in order to imprint the message deeply into their mind.

Through the introduction from the participants, I have learnt that they all came for the same objectives, which were to improve their communication skill and to conquer the fear of public speaking. I could feel the fire and desire from their heart to chase for improvement in their communication and public speaking skills.

Everybody comes from different background. We have participants from England, India, Philippine, Malaysia and Singapore. We have participants working as a nurse, IT professional, engineer, programmer, business analyst and student. It was quite a fascinating moment while everyone was sharing their views during table topics session based on their own perception.

I look forward to listening to 10 speeches about themselves in the coming session. I believe it will be a very thrilling and mesmerizing session!

NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

A typical dramatic opening address by president Kia with his New Year resolution on effectiveness through proper planning. It was emphasized through his personal story about how he consumed more than one hour time for reaching Harbour Front from Ang Mo Kio without proper planning using map and the route. TME Prabin started the first meeting of the New Year with an energetic topic on achievement by Edmund Hillary who climbed Mount Everest. TME impressed the audience about breaking the shell and surfacing out from the comfort zone to reach greater heights with very enthralling preface with a note on everyone’s New Year Decree. We could too listen some exciting resolutions like ‘Effective Planning’ ‘No need for resolutions’ ‘never look back’ & ‘Look Forward’. Next event was the word of the day by Kan Choo Choo with an elegant word called ‘panache’ which attracted everybody so that they had very well used in their speech. Table topics session was very well carried out by Heru, remarkable topics for the new year like ‘New job’, ‘Unfortunate people’, ‘One million dollar’ and ‘ dream car’. Then came to prepared speech session where two exciting icebreaker projects were presented. Chan Kok Kwiong presentation was about his introduction with interesting events on his childhood and school days. Dessler Lee opened his shell on decision making, MP3, cooking and sports. It was a special occasion as Ruchi Chandra presented her project P10 with an achievement as CC about healthy body and healthy mind. Other exciting Episode is Evaluation session with our president KIA illustrated strengths and improvements about Chan. Ruchi’s speech was completely analysed by Jave Zhao and Winson lim assessed Dessler Lee’s ice breaker project. Language evaluator furnished an interesting quotes on using of words such as ‘cook’, ’cooker’ “Counsel” “counselor” etc, Meeting concluded with presentations of the Ribbons for best speaker - ice breaker by Chan Kwok Kiong and best table topic by Prabin. It ended with information on upcoming events in other Toastmaster clubs, conventions and contests. A fuelling and energizing chapter meeting was to kick start the New Year.

JUST DO IT

This is not only the famous Nike’s Quote but also a punch line from our very impressive Language Evaluator, CL Mr. Charanjeet Singh during our dramatic First joint meeting with NTU Toastmasters clubs. It was indeed a splendid footstep towards greater heights.

An over-helming introductory speech was presented by Toastmaster of the evening, Jit Hwee in his unique style. Our president Kia delivered an excellent opening address with a strong note on achieving success by learning and practicing the skills. He proved it with a thrilling display by performing a magic which brought the audience to the edge of their seats.

Bala from NTU carried out Table Topics session in a remarkable manner by excellent and surprise topics which excited the audience and therefore it was not indeed an intricate task to attract the volunteers for table topics. As this session was poised with fun and exciting topics like “Power of Invisibility” & “Dinner with Most liked opposite gender”.

Prabin deserved best table topic award by the talk on “Dinner with Aishwarya Rai”.

Then came to prepared speech session with an Ice breaker project presented by Chua Chin Meng who overwhelmed us with a quote on Toastmasters. Sunny Wong gave fascinating and enlightening facts about mobile phone technology by extensive research. Geraldine displayed admirable presentation skills which fetched her best speaker award on speech about Christmas and gifts pertinent to the festive season. It was followed by a Grand speech by Kia on his mentor on special occasion.

A special refreshment session was in the offer where members from the both clubs mingled to get to know each other along with walk in guests.

It was a time for evaluating prepared projects. Vijay evaluated Chua Chin on Ice breaker and Wei Yue evaluated Sunny Wong on his elaborative research on cell phones.

Geraldine was evaluated by Lee with his points about Audience coverage while using presentation materials. Jiang evaluated Kia’s project on his special occasion speech.

Word of the day “Transform” was used by most of the stage speakers . Mr.Charanjeet Singh induced a flame in everybody with his flawless speech and eager for achieving greater heights with Toastmasters. Timer Cao and Ah counter Le Song displayed tremendous proficiency on their tasks.

Meeting ended with magnificent closing address by Bala. This was indeed a greater kick start for more joint and interesting meetings in the future.

SMILE YOUR WAY

‘Smile as much you can’ was the highlight of our meeting on 20th November 2007. Our Toastmaster of the evening IRIS started the meeting with a note on “Smile your way”. In President Kia’s stunning opening address he stressed about benefits of attending the annual conventions by sharing his personal experience. President sharpened out the direction towards the club goals. He injected fire into us to make our club a thriving club.

TME IRIS carried out the proceedings in an exceptional way by bringing out the cheers on everybody face. Innovative way of introduction by TME on getting the response on what we do if we want to make others laugh.

The word of the day ‘Impeccable’ was introduced by Mr.Charanjith Singh with excellent iterations like “Glittering”,” Global” & “Glorious” quoted from great speakers. He impressed the audience with the milestones in his Toastmaster Journey and his hunger for the learning through Toastmasters.

Table topics session was very enjoyably accomplished by Khoo Geng Yoke by surprising topic on our next action in embarrassing and happy moments. Audience response was tremendous for exceptional table topics.

Then comes prepared speech session where Prabin gave an informative speech on dengue alert. Sunny spoke out New Year Resolution & Vijay gave power presentation about world records. Bernard persuaded the audience on speech about length or short is the problem. This occasion was memorable as two distinguishing guests signed up as TM members with Frontier.

Evaluators demonstrated constructive way of appreciations and suggestions.

Another victorious effort was by our VPE Cynthia for successful chapter meeting. Meeting was concluded with astounding closing address by president and awards for best performer of the evening with smiles on everybody’s face.
